Ohrid day eleven 4/10/15

Ohrid

4th  October Sunday
day eleven Via Egnatia - Macedonia
Explore Ohrid

While Patrick watches the Australian Rugby League grand final, I head off to explore more of the old walled town of Ohrid
This plane tree is reputed to be around 900 years old, the divided trunk has a circumference of about 20m!

There are beautiful little churches everywhere in Ohrid.
Everywhere I walk there are artifacts and archeological sites!
There's some lovely shops with traditional wood carving, costumes, embroidery... Sad that there's no room in my pack! And I certainly don't want any more weight to carry!!
The back of stunning St Sophia church
View across Lake Ohrid from an outdoor concert area on top of the hill.
I find a little path from the outdoor concert area down to the water. Down the narrow steps , seems like part of the town wall - to the waterfront.

The walk along the timber water front is lovely, lots of people out on boats, walking and fishing... Enjoying the beautiful weather on their Sunday outing.

the Church of St. John at Kaneo. A Macedonian orthodox church dating from the 14th century which sits high above the town and  overlooks the lake. Stunning location! And a gorgeous little church.
it's truly stunning, I spent quite some time here looking around and soaking in the sights. No photos inside the church allowed. The fresco and icons are beautiful inside, it's quite a small church.
Looking down from the church. The water is so clear!

Renovators delight, cliffs on one side, the lake on the other...
I find a hand made paper workshop.
The old printing press , beautiful old equipment, I buy a little print on the hand made paper, I'll slide it behind my iPad cover to keep it flat.
Patrick's footy has finished, so we have a wander together. My tummy is a little unsettled, lots of gurgling and grumbling today!
The amphitheater

The old town wall gate with huge, heavy doors.
Tsar Samouil's fortress

View looking down to Sv. Klement Pantelejmon - St Clement church (the greater)  and the archeological site of Plaoshnik next to the church where there are remains of ancient churches and mosaics.
Beautiful mosaics
archeological site of Plaoshnik
Windows in the old town...
There's some great old cars still being driven around Ohrid!

Good night, time to put in the ear plugs (to block out Patrick's snoring) and have a good nights sleep ready for walking tomorrow - hopefully my tummy is feeling better!
